SmarTire, Visteon ink monitor deal
RICHMOND, British Columbia-SmarTire Systems Inc. and Visteon Corp. have agreed in principle to develop and market tire-monitoring solutions for vehicle manufacturers for passenger car applications.
Feedback from auto makers shows the need to offer a ``range of solutions integrating direct measurement technology with existing automotive modules and electronic systems,'' SmarTire said.
Robert Rudman, SmarTire president and CEO, said the two companies are working to solidify non-exclusive product development and distribution agreements.
Goodyear, NAACP partner on hiring
AKRON—Goodyear recently donated $15,000 to the NAACP in a partnership to boost minority hiring.
The tire maker presented the gift during the NAACP's Southwestern Region VI Conference in Little Rock, Ark.
``Our goal is to increase the region director's awareness of our local facilities, to facilitate their understanding of our hiring process and to build on these relationships so that their organization can become a more integral part of our recruitment, outreach and problem resolution efforts,'' said Phil Brown, vice president of human resources for Goodyear's North American Tire division.
Goodyear began the regional initiative last summer with Region V NAACP, which includes several southern states and encompasses more than 14,000 Goodyear employees, the company said.
Pirelli bladder plant wins RMA award
LITTLE ROCK, Ark.-Pirelli Tire North America's Little Rock bladder plant has won an award from the Rubber Manufacturers Association for improvements in worker health and safety over the past year.
The Safety and Health Improvement Award Program (SHIP) recognizes member companies that achieve significant enhancements in work health and safety.
Pirelli's Specialty Products Division plant won for reducing its incidence rate by 20 percent over the prior year.
Coker introduces Newstalgia Wheel
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn.-Coker Tire Co. has launched Newstalgia Wheel Co., a division offering a line of retro wheels for late-model cars and trucks.
Wheel designs include the Magnum 500, Corvette Style Rally, Chrysler Style Rally, Gennie, Solid and Smoothie recreated in 16- and 18-inch billet and aluminum rim sizes for use with high-performance tires.
David Coker, the firm's executive vice president, will head Newstalgia Wheel.
BFS Web site now available in French
MISSISSAUGA, Ontario-Bridgestone/Firestone's Web site, www.tiresafety.com, is now available in French and includes metric measurements.
By registering on the site, launched last year, Canadian users will receive a monthly e-mail reminder to check their air pressure. The site-also available in English and Spanish-offers educational tools regarding tires and the role they play in vehicle performance and safety, BFS said. The Web site also can be accessed via www.securitedespneus.com.
Minn. firm supplies tubes for Hercules
PLYMOUTH, Minn.-Private brand tire marketer Countrywide Tire & Rubber has agreed to provide Hercules Tire & Rubber Co. with Rubber Master inner tubes, specialty tires and flaps.
Countrywide said it will provide individual Hercules dealers with products shipped from its Plymouth facility.
