MACON, Ga. (May 24, 2002) — Jimmy D. Lunsford, 53, a Scottsdale, Ariz., tire dealer, was sentenced to 41 months in prison and ordered to pay restitution of $96,533 in a “gray market” tire sales case before the federal court in Macon.
He also was given three year's supervised release. Mr. Lunsford was convicted Feb. 14 of participating in a scheme to buy medium truck tires for overseas export then sell them domestically, thus avoiding the federal excise tax due on U.S. truck tire sales.
Six other defendants who pleaded guilty to the scheme were sentenced to probation and fines.
