Dealers show giving spirit

AKRON (April 16, 2002)-Just as we've found with our Tire Dealer Humanitarian Award, tire dealers are a caring and generous group of people, who regularly give back to their communities and support each other when a need arises.

Dealers once again have rallied to help one of their own, this time raising money for Jackie McGuirt, a former tire dealer from Ridgeway, S.C., who was shot at his dealership by an armed robber last November. The injuries left Mr. McGuirt, whose family had no health insurance, paralyzed from the underarms down.

Dealer and tire company involvement in a golf outing on Mr. McGuirt's behalf, along with donations from at least 30 dealers nationwide, have raised enough money to purchase a specially equipped van with a wheel chair lift.

Mr. McGuirt has shown a tremendous positive spirit in dealing with his injuries. So have the tire dealers who have come to his aid.
