Teknor Apex Co. launched an automated, 24-hour, online system for ordering tread rubber on Feb. 1.
Retreaders can access the system by clicking on the ``customer care center'' icon on its Web site, www.teknorapex.com. The company developed the system for all its operating divisions that previously had relied on an electronic data interchange (EDI) network, according to National Sales Manager Kevin Sapp.
The new system allows retreaders to check the status as well as history of orders and reduces customer order-entry error, Mr. Sapp said. He acknowledged that about ``half a dozen'' retreaders are using the system because most retreaders still are not online and are more comfortable with phone orders.
``We expect it to gain popularity, but it's more crawling, going toward the walking and running stage,'' he said.
