CYPRESS, Calif. (Feb. 20, 2002)—Toyo Tire (USA) Corp.'s Proxes RA-1 has been chosen as the spec tire for two racing series in the National Auto Sport Association (NASA).
The Spec Miata Challenge Series and the American Iron Series each will feature the tire. The former series features eight races between identically prepared Mazda Miatas racing on 205/50ZR15-size tires. The latter series provides two classes of such American-bred pony cars as the Chevrolet Camaro and Ford Mustang.
Proxes RA-1 tires carry a V- or Z-rating, depending on size, and are available in 13- through 18-inch diameters. Their treads are molded with an 8/32-inch depth for wet traction, Toyo said, adding that the tires can be shaved to a 4/32-inch depth to generate an extreme cornering force on dry tracks.
