Edward Witzberger, 86, founder of Pennsylvania-based E.W. Tire Centers, died Jan. 27 in Pittsburgh.
A resident of Scott, Pa., Mr. Witzberger founded his dealership in the 1950s. It was later sold to Goodyear and is now Flynn's E.W. Tire, one of the area's largest dealerships, according to Ron Brutt, president of the Tire Dealers Association of Western Pennsylvania.
Mr. Witzberger also founded the Pittsburgh Racing Association, a stock-car racing league and played a role in the development of the Pittsburgh International Dragway. He also was a national safety coordinator of NASCAR's drag racing division.
Mr. Witzberger began his professional career in the coal business. He left that and entered the tire business when electricity began replacing coal as a primary energy source. He ultimately built his dealership to eight stores.
Flynn's E.W. Tire has grown to a 22-store dealership in the Pittsburgh area.
Mr. Witzberger is survived by his wife, Verona, two daughters, eight grandchildren and one great-grandson.
Ty Howe, 29, co-owner of the Las Cruces, N.M., Big O Tires store, died Dec. 16 in Camino Real, N.M., following an ATV accident.
Mr. Howe was a resident of Las Cruces for the last six years. He was raised in Arizona.
Mr. Howe is survived by his wife, Wendy, and a 19-month-old daughter. A second child is expected in June. Other surviving family members include his parents; a brother and two sisters.
Store co-owner Dean Sippy has established a fund for the Howe children.

Barbara (Siegworth) Eichert, 62, and a member of the Tire Dealers Association of Western Pennsylvania, died Jan. 11 in Pittsburgh.
Mrs. Eichert's husband Ike was founder of Ike's Tire Store in Bellevue, Pa. The couple sold the single-location dealership seven years ago.
Mrs. Eichert was an active member of the North Suburban Chamber of Commerce and the Bellevue Democratic Committee and earlier served as an auditor for Bellevue Borough.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son and his wife; two daughters; and five grandchildren.
