GRANITEVILLE, S.C. (Feb. 11, 2002)—Bridgestone/Firestone announced its Aiken County plant will receive the Palmetto Star award from the South Carolina Department of Labor Licensing and Regulation.
The award will recognize the plant for exceeding comprehensive health and safety standards set forth by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. Rita McKinney, director of Labor Licensing and Regulation will present the plant with the award during Feb. 12 ceremonies. It will honor BFS' status in OSHA's Voluntary Protection Program (VPP).
The Aiken facility joins BFS' Warren County, Tenn., plant as one of only two tire factories in the United States to receive such a distinction, BFS said.
“This award is a tribute to our people and a testament to our company's visions,” said John Lampe, BFS Chairman and CEO. “It is a challenge for us to continue on, better, stronger, always improving.”
The selection for the Palmetto Star award is based on a self-assessment checklist for the VPP, reviewed by South Carolina's OSHA, and an on-site review by a team of SCOSHA safety and health specialists.
