Josam Products Inc. has introduced Play Detectors for safe and easy detection of worn vehicle components. The units move the floor under a braked axle to allow quick and accurate inspection of the chassis, suspension, brake and steering components.
The units work with hydraulic force, which is applied to plates anchored to the shop floor, moving the tires parked on them longitudinally and laterally at the same time.
This motion simulates forces acting on the vehicle during operation, allowing the inspector to observe components without risk, Josam said.
Operators can put their hands on the parts in question and feel the motion while controlling the Play Detector's activation at the same time. All vehicles' axles can be tested with the equipment, the company said.

National-Spencer Inc. has introduced the PW-005 Zee Line Parts Washer. Designed to facilitate removal of particles, soil or other contaminants from mechanical parts, the model has a capacity of 5 gallons with a solvent capacity of 31/2 gallons.
The parts washer features a fusible link steel cover that will close automatically in the event of a flash fire, National-Spencer said.

Hunter Engineering Co. has introduced the TC3000 and TC3100 tire changers.
The TC3000 handles tires up to 44 inches in diameter; the TC3100 up to 39 inches. Both changers handle tires up to 15 inches wide.
Each model features twin-cylinder tabletop clamping systems that continue to clamp evenly as the unit wears, the company said. Clamping jaws can be clamped internally on steel wheels up to 22 inches in diameter or externally on alloy wheels up to 20 inches in diameter. Nylon inserts protect alloy wheels when clamping externally.
A polymer mount/dismount head protects rims and tires and reduces stress on the unit and its operator, Hunter said. The units' inflation pedal and gauge location keeps operators out of the danger zone during inflation. An integral pressure limiter inflates quickly and prevents over-inflation, the company said.

Gaither Tool Co. has unveiled the Gaither Tool-J1, the first in a new series of truck tire-changing tools.
The J1 requires just two pieces to completely mount or dismount all 19.5-, 22.5- or 24.5-inch tires, and handles all steel and aluminum wheel assemblies.
The J1 allows for beads to be dismounted without moving the tire or wheel off the ground, Gaither said. The tool mounts the tire onto the wheel as well, protecting the tire from bead damage and the wheel from scratches, the company said. What makes the tool unique, Gaither said, is that it adjusts to the tire make and size.

PulseTech Products Corp. has introduced the BATTCAVE (battery charging and verification equipment), a battery maintenance facility designed to go anywhere to provide full-range lead-acid battery charging, maintenance and recovery.
The BATTCAVE is ideal for fleet maintenance operations, PulseTech said. It includes the company's charging and verification equipment that works with both 12-volt conventional flooded lead-acid batteries and sealed maintenance-free batteries, the company said.
The unit is made of heavy-gauge steel and weatherproofed, the company said.
Designed for 220-volt shore power, it can be purchased with a multi-fuel generator. It can also be made to custom-size specifications, the company said.

Rotary Lift has introduced the 12,000-pound capacity SmartLift, a 3,000-pound upgrade over previous models. An in-ground unit featuring a one-piece polymer containment housing to protect the lift from the environment, the lift uses a fraction of the oil required by old-style in-ground lifts, Rotary said.
The lift also features fewer moving parts and can be relocated, if needed, the company said. Options include electronic control functions and an interactive information center with LCD screen and touchpad (standard controls also are available).
The 12,000-pound lift includes a heavy-duty low-profile superstructure and is supported by Rotary's nationwide factory-authorized installer network.
