QUINCY, Ill. (Dec. 10, 2001)—Striking workers at Titan International Inc.'s Natchez, Miss., agricultural tire plant have approved a new five-year labor agreement, clearing the way for Titan to restart production at the plant which has been idle since May.
Workers at the plant went on strike Sept. 15, 1998, shortly after Titan acquired the former Fidelity Tire Manufacturing Co. plant out of bankruptcy. Earlier, Titan said it would take 12 to 18 months to get the idled plant back up to full operation.
Officially, the agreement is between members of United Steelworkers of America Local 303L and Titan Tire Corp. of Natchez, a subsidiary of Titan International. The plant originally was an Armstrong Rubber Co. facility. Titan did not disclose details of the agreement.
