WASHINGTON (Nov. 27, 2001)—The Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers and most of its members have signed letters of intent certifying that by Jan. 1, 2003 they will provide to independent auto technicians the same diagnostic and repair tools and information they provide to their dealers.
If this becomes final, it will obviate the need for auto repair right-to-know legislation currently before Congress, according to Robert L. Redding, Washington representative for the Automotive Service Association. The ASA hopes to finalize the deal in January.
