NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Nov. 1, 2001)—Bridgestone Corp. and its U.S. subsidiary, Bridgestone/Firestone Inc., denied a report from Reuters which quoted a Japanese newspaper as saying Bridgestone and Ford Motor Co. officials would sit down soon to discuss reconciling differences created by recalls of original equipment Firestone tires on Ford vehicles.
“There are no proposals from Ford yet,” a Bridgestone spokesman said. Bridgestone/Firestone and Ford “continue to meet on an operational level because we continue to supply existing contracts,” a Bridgestone/Firestone spokeswoman said. “But there are no meetings scheduled with (Firestone CEO) John Lampe.”
