WESTBOROUGH, Mass. (Oct. 2, 2001)—Commercial tire dealership Quirk Tire & Service Corp. and VIP Discount Auto Center of Lewiston, Maine, are merging their operations, with Quirk Tire Owner John Quirk to become president and CEO of the new company.
The deal, completed Sept. 28, combines Quirk's three commercial tire centers with VIP's 49 retail tire and auto parts stores in Maine, New Hampshire and Massachusetts. The new company, which will retain the VIP Discount Auto Center name, anticipates forecasted sales of $95 million in its first full year of operation, the companies said.
The newly formed company will begin building a corporate training facility in Lewiston next month. Together, VIP and Quirk employ more than 1,000.
The companies did not disclose what position or role VIP President Thomas Auger will play in the merged company.
VIP Discount Auto operates 270 service bays at its 49 New England stores.
Quirk Tire is in its 75th year of business, while VIP is in it 43rd year.
