FORT SMITH, Ark. (Sept. 17, 2001) – John R. (Bob) Meyers, chairman and CEO of Wingfoot Commercial Tire Systems L.L.C., has announced that he will resign, effective Sept. 30, his position as leader of Goodyear's commercial business venture with Arkansas Best Corp.'s Treadco Inc. subsidiary and Brad Ragan Inc.
John Polhemus, president of Goodyear's North American Tire operations, which is the parent of Wingfoot, said that Mr. Meyers successfully led the creation of the Wingfoot business and established a solid base for the future. “After working to establish the organization that brought together three separate commercial organizations, Bob indicated a desire to move on to other activities and interests,” Mr. Polhemus said. “We certainly appreciate all of the hard work and effort he put into the business.”
Goodyear announced that Steve McClellan, who recently replaced Michael Thomann as Wingfoot president and chief operating officer, would assume the transitional leadership position in the organization.
Mr. Polhemus said a transitional team led by Chuck Mick, vice president of business development, will assist Mr. McClellan in his efforts. Mr. Polhemus indicated that Mr. Meyers would also assist in the transitional efforts.
“This is an extremely important business for Goodyear's commercial segment,” Mr. Polhemus said. “Their mission is to be the leader in servicing the trucking industry through the overall effectiveness of the Truckwise and Next-Tred marketing initiatives in the commercial and retreading businesses. We look forward to continuing to build, and improve upon, the business base that Bob helped establish.”
Mr. Meyers served as president and CEO of Treadco when the company joined with Goodyear to form Wingfoot — considered by Goodyear to be the largest truck tire service network in the world.
