HONOLULU (Sept. 14, 2001) — A Honolulu couple became the first in Hawaii to file a lawsuit in the ongoing litigation involving Ford Explorers equipped with Firestone tires.
Michael Vitolo and Tammy Wilson claimed a rear tire on their Explorer failed July 31. They avoided colliding with other cars but still suffered back, head, neck and hand injuries, they claimed in their suit against car dealership Honolulu Ford. They also claimed that at the time the accident occurred Honolulu Ford had them on a two- to three-month waiting list for replacement tires for the original-equipment Firestone tires on their sport-utility vehicle.
The couple is only suing the Ford dealership, not Bridgestone/Firestone Inc. or Ford Motor Co.
