SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (Aug. 24, 2001)—The Twin Cities are about to become home to the Discount quintuplets.
Scottsdale, Ariz.-based Discount Tire Co. Inc. has announced it will open five stores in the Minnesota Capital area in October and is touting the expansion into new territory on its Web site.
Minnesota brings to 18 the number of states in which it has locations.
The new stores are in Burnsville, south of Minneapolis; Maplewood, north of St. Paul; Eden Prairie, southwest of Minneapolis; Plymouth, east of Minneapolis; and Brooklyn Park, northwest of Minneapolis.
Additionally, the company will open three stores in the Atlanta area before the end of 2001, a spokeswoman said.
Stores in Douglasville and Kennessaw are listed on the firm's Web site as coming in September and October, respectively, and would join an outlet in Woodstock which opened in early August. All three are northwest or west of Atlanta.
The company has acquired a piece of property, presumably for an additional store, on Atlanta's east side. The spokeswoman said that an earlier report in the Atlanta Business Chronicle, which stated the dealership was “scouting for locations for 40 to 50 stores in the Atlanta area,” was erroneous.
“We will be looking at additional locations, with high demographics being a key element in our store site selection,” she said.
The initial trio of Georgia locations are stand-alone 8,000-sq.-ft. buildings. Discount Tire—with 450 stores nationwide selling more than 30 brands of tires and nearly two dozen brands of wheels—is ranked North America's third-largest independent dealership.
