NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Aug. 15, 2001)—Hoping to cash in on the popularity of the Andretti racing family, Bridgestone/Firestone Inc. has teamed up with MasterCard to create the Andretti Racing credit card for use at more than 3,500 authorized BFS independent retailers and 1,500 BFS-owned and -operated outlets.
Available with no annual fee, the card provides motorists with a 90-day, no-interest, no-payment option (a minimum monthly payment is required in Arizona and North Carolina) or an affordable monthly payment plan.
The card, available in silver, gold or platinum, features likenesses of Mario and Michael Andretti, the well-known father-and-son racing duo who are featured in BFS's current print and television advertising campaign.
“They use Bridgestone and Firestone brand tires on their personal vehicles, so they're just as familiar with our street tires as they are our race tires,” said Phil Pasci, BFS director of consumer tires brand/retail marketing. “The Andretti name is synonymous with winning, so we're very pleased to have Mario and Michael involved with our credit card program.”
Following their first purchase using the Andretti credit card, customers will be mailed a limited edition mug, featuring a photo of the Andrettis. Mario won the 1969 Indianapolis 500 racing on Firestone tires; Michael has raced the last two years on Firestone tires in the Championship Auto Racing Teams series and at the Indy 500 this year.
