PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. (Aug. 13, 2001)—The Alabama Tire Dealers Association elected its first female president, Cheryl Lentz of Lentz Tire & Service in Trinity, Ala., during its annual convention in Panama City Beach July 20-21.
Ms. Lentz will serve for the 2001-2002 term along with the following officers: Jim Foust of McGriff Industries Inc. in Cullman, Ala., first vice president; Ken Phillips of Tire Centers L.L.C. in Birmingham, Ala., second vice president; and Frank Harcrow of Dugco Inc. in Birmingham, secretary/treasurer.
The group also inducted its first members into the ATDA Hall of Fame, many of whom were founders of the Alabama Tire Dealers and Retreaders Association in 1961.
Those inductees include: John Abernethy Sr., founder of Southern Rubber Co. in Birmingham; Ben and Louie David, founders of David Tire Co. in Birmingham; T.M. “Red” Fowler of Fowler-Dozier Tire Store in Montgomery, Ala.; and Bert McGriff, founder of McGriff Industries in Cullman.
The association's former executive director, Hank McCafferty, and Ed Westmoreland, founder of Westmoreland Tire Co. in Fort Payne, Ala., also were inducted.
