DETROIT (July 9, 2001)—Carlos Ghosn, onetime chairman, president and CEO at Michelin North America Inc., has been named Industry Leader of the Year for the automotive industry by Automotive News.
Now president and CEO of Nissan Motor Co. Ltd. in Japan, Mr. Ghosn won the honor for leading the company to record sales and profits in only the first year of what was to be a three-year turnaround process, Automotive News said.
This is the second year in a row the publication has tapped the Nissan executive as its Industry Leader of the Year. Automotive News is a sister publication of Tire Business.
Mr. Ghosn spent 18 years with Michelin, leaving in 1996 to become executive vice president at Renault. He became chief operating officer at Nissan after Renault acquired controlling interest in the company.
