GREENVILLE, S.C. (June 22, 2001)—Michelin North America Inc. is planning a September launch of what one company official describes as "the most technologically advanced all-season tire in the history of the automotive industry."
Oscar Pereda, technical marketing manager for performance tires, said the new Michelin Pilot Sport AS will prove to be the first all-season passenger tire with performance on dry as well as wet pavement that will rival that of tires in the ultra-high-performance summer category.
Mr. Pereda said a September launch is planned for the new technologically advanced Z-rated tire. He said 2000 was the first year in which sales of Z-rated all-season tires surpassed those of summer high-performance designs.
The Pilot Sport A/S, which features multiple tread compounds and carries a 400 treadwear rating, is being built on Michelin proprietary C3M automated manufacturing equipment—the same equipment used to produce the BFGoodrich Schorcher color-tread tires.
