AKRON (June 7, 2001) — James M. Zimmerman, chairman and chief executive officer of Federated Department Stores Inc., has been elected to Goodyear's board of directors.
The tire maker's chairman and CEO, Samir G. Gibara, called Mr. Zimmerman “a recognized leader in the retail industry and someone who has been involved in helping reshape it for more than 37 years.”
The 57-year-old Mr. Zimmerman served as Federated's president and COO from 1988 to 1997, before being elected to his present position. He has been a member of the department store's board since 1988, and also has held positions with various divisions of Federated since 1965. The company operates more than 400 stores, including Bloomingdale's, The Bon Marche, Burdines, Lazarus, Macy's and Rich's.
Goodyear also announced that Katherine G. Farley, senior managing director of Tishman Speyer Properties Inc., has resigned from the tire maker's board, to which she has been a member since 1998.
