FINDLAY, Ohio (May 31, 2001)—Cooper Tire & Rubber Co. won't be helping Ford Motor Co. to replace the 13 million Firestone Wilderness AT tires it's recalling, according to a Cooper spokeswoman.
The spokeswoman said there is no agreement current or pending on the recall between Ford and her company. “I can't verify whether they approached us, but I can tell you we're dedicating all our production to fulfill our current customer needs, and business is booming,” she said.
Goodyear has stated that it expects to replace “the vast majority” of the recalled tires through an agreement with Ford, while Michelin North America Inc. and Continental Tire North America also were contacted by Ford.
