WASHINGTON (May 25, 2001)–The Tire Association of North America is increasing its profile on Capitol Hill in anticipation of the call by House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Billy Tauzin, R-La., to hold further hearings on the Firestone tire-Ford Explorer situation.
The association has retained the lobbying firm of Ryan, Philips, Utrecht and MacKinnon to aid the effort led by TANA Government Affairs Director Becky MacDicken, TANA General Counsel Jeff Tanenbaum and TANA's Government Affairs Committee.
“We want to make sure that any potential legislation, if any is introduced, does not cast too wide of a net,” Ms. MacDicken said in a press release. “Clearly no one in the industry or on the Hill wants to have innocent tire dealers targeted by legislation.”
Last year TANA claimed victory in preventing harsh measures against tire dealers in the Transportation Recall Effectiveness, Accountability and Documentation (TREAD) Act.
