WASHINGTON (May 15, 2001) — The Rubber Manufacturers Association is stepping up promotion of its “Be Tire Smart–Play Your PART” tire safety program to Congress, various states and other associations.
Ann Wilson, RMA vice president of government affairs, has been visiting Capitol Hill lawmakers “to amplify our efforts on behalf of tire safety,” she said. Also, the association has placed ads on the “PART” program in Congress Daily for the week of May 14 and “Roll Call” for the week of May 21.
It has prepared a tire safety educational curriculum for driver's education teachers, which will be unveiled in southwestern states this fall and then gradually expand to other areas of the country, an RMA spokesman said. RMA President Donald B. Shea will travel to San Diego the week of May 21 to promote the tire safety program, and he and Kim Weber, RMA director of government affairs, will travel to southern states this summer for radio spokesperson appearances on tire safety.
Also, the American Automobile Association has distributed 25,000 “PART” brochures so far through its local clubs, and the RMA is working with the Tire Association of North America toward distributing brochures to TANA members, the spokesman said.
The association is trying to form an outreach program on tire safety with members of the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials, and has received “a good initial reaction,” the spokesman said.
