WASHINGTON-Bridgestone/Firestone Inc. is recalling 93,000 Firestone Firehawk GTA-02 radials, size P205/55R16 89H.
The tires were made at the BFS plant in Wilson, N.C., between July 1999 and November 2000.
BFS told the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration the tires could suffer shoulder-area cracking with increasing mileage, possibly leading to exposure and separation of the belt edge.
The Nashville-based tire maker supplied the tires as original equipment to certain 2000 and 2001 Nissan Altima SE passenger cars.
The announced the earlier recall of Firestone ATX, ATX II and Wilderness AT tires last August. Studies by a BFS technical team and a third-party engineering expert found cracking in the interbelt rubber layer caused by several factors including tire design and inadequate adhesion between the belts and the tire polymers.
