BUFFALO, N.Y. (April 20, 2001) – Goodyear Dunlop Tires North America Ltd. has signed an agreement to be presenting sponsor of the 2001 AMA/Chevy Trucks U.S. Motocross Championships Series.
Beginning May 13 in San Bernardino, Calif., and concluding Sept. 2 in Delmont, Pa., the series includes a dozen races across the country.
According to Vince Wagner, Dunlop light truck radial product marketing manager, the races — which are scheduled to be carried by the ESPN2 network — continue to attract a growing audience both on cable and at the track. Over the past five years, he said, motocross has become "one of the fastest-growing forms of motorsports and a major part of American motorsports culture."
Given what he called "the excellent name recognition" that the Dunlop motorcycle tire brand enjoys "and the fact that more than 60 percent of (motocross) fans travel to these events in light trucks, vans or SUVs, this is a perfect fit for Dunlop light truck tires."
Sponsoring these types of events, Mr. Wagner added, "gives us the opportunity to educate fans, who are already well-acquainted with the advantages of bolting Dunlop tires on their motorcycles, about the equally outstanding quality of Dunlop's tires for performance and passenger cars, light trucks and sport-utility vehicles."
