FORT WORTH, Texas (April 9, 2001) — Bridgestone/Firestone Inc., hoping to generate enthusiasm for and spur sales of its Firestone brand, will be the title sponsor of the FedEx Championship Series race at Texas Motor Speedway April 29, which will be known as the Firestone Firehawk 600.
"The success of the Firestone Racing program has been very important to our dealers and company associates," said Al Speyer, Bridgestone/Firestone motorsports director.
"TMS officials provided us with a great race sponsorship opportunity that was particularly attractive to our Dallas area sales associates," Mr. Speyer said, noting the company expects to have thousands of Firestone retailers, family members and customers on hand for the 600-kilometer event, the third race in the 21-race CART FedEx Championship.
Firestone is the sole supplier of tires to 29 cars that compete in the series. The company also sponsors the race at Japan´s Twin Ring Motegi, where the Firestone Firehawk 500 will take place May 19 for the third straight year.
The company did not say how much it is paying for the naming rights to these events.
