WASHINGTON (April 3, 2001)—The Rubber Manufacturers Association will award a $2,500 cash prize and a five-year American Automobile Association membership to the winner of a contest to name the "tire character" icon in its tire safety education campaign.
That program, "Be Tire Smart—Play Your PART," was announced last year as a way to disseminate simple, easy-to-use tire maintenance information to U.S. motorists. PART stands for Pressure, Alignment, Rotation and Tread, according to RMA President Donald B. Shea.
"Our campaign icon will be seen everywhere, reminding customers about the importance of tire care and safety," Mr. Shea said in a press release. "We want our tire-smart character to have a name to reflect that trait."
The RMA is accepting names for the character between April 1 and May 31. Besides the grand prize, the association is also offering three regional prizes of a "Hit the Road Kit," including a car stereo, $500 in car maintenance, $250 in gas as a three-year AAA membership. Twenty "Tire Smart" winners will receive an emergency road kit and a one-year AAA membership.
Submit contest entries—including suggested tire character name, your own name, address, telephone number and age—to www.rma.org/contest or to Rubber Manufacturers Association Contest, P.O. Box 65101, Washington DC 20035. All ages may enter, but entrants 12 and under must send their entries to the post office box along with written approval from a parent or guardian.
