DURAND, Wis. (March 30, 2001) — Retail/commercial tire dealership and retreader Bauer Built Inc. has acquired U.S. Wholesale Tire Inc. of Fulton, Ill., effective March 26.
U.S. Wholesale distributes new tires and tubes throughout the Midwest, according to Bauer Built. Its primary service area includes Iowa, western Illinois, southern Wisconsin, southern Minnesota, eastern North Dakota, eastern South Dakota, Nebraska and northern Missouri.
Bauer Built has been in business for 57 years servicing the Midwest — including much of the same area as U.S. Wholesale Tire — in the commercial, wholesale and retail distribution of new and retreaded tires, batteries, automotive services, and other related products. Jerry Bauer is president of the Durand-based company, which operates 22 combination retail/commercial outlets and six retreading plants.
The company — ranked by Tire Business as the seventh-largest commercial dealership in North America — is a Michelin Retread Technologies Inc. franchisee. In mid-1999, it severed ties to its long-time retread system supplier, Bandag Inc., and converted all its retread plants to the Michelin system.
