WASHINGTON (March 22, 2001)—Decreases in every major tire category in December left the U.S. total tire category down, with a 13.8-percent decrease for the month and a 2-percent increase for the year-to-date, according to Rubber Manufacturers Association data.
The passenger category dipped 13.1 percent while the light truck category slipped 12.1 percent.
According to data from the Rubber Association of Canada, the total tire category for Canadian replacement shipments inched up 1.8 percent for the month to 1.02 million units while year-to-date figures increased 1.9 percent. The passenger category rose 6.5 percent to 744,082 units while the truck/bus category slipped 11.4 percent for the month.
