NASHVILLE, Tenn. (March 6, 2001)—Bridgestone/Firestone Inc. is donating $20,000 to the American Red Cross to aid those affected by a harsh winter in Oklahoma and Arkansas.
The corporate donation reinforces ongoing volunteer work by BFS employees at the local level, the company said in a March 6 announcement.
"The entire Bridgestone/Firestone family has been inspired by the stories of those in the greater Oklahoma and Arkansas communities who have experienced the devastation of this winter´s storms," said Christine Karbowiak, vice president of public affairs.
"Oklahoma City is home to more than 1,600 of our employees, and we are proud to support their efforts and those of the American Red Cross in assisting those who have been affected by the unusually harsh winter," she added. "The trust fund is honored to help supplement those efforts from our employees throughout the greater Oklahoma area with its most recent contribution."
Employees from BFS´ Oklahoma City plant in the past have worked in conjunction with the American Red Cross Central Oklahoma chapter to help with disaster relief for such tragedies as the 1999 tornado in Moore, Okla., and the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing.
