CHARLOTTE, N.C. (Jan. 29, 2001)—Continental A.G. has changed the corporate name of its North American subsidiary—Continental General Tire Inc.—to Continental Tire North America Inc. (CTNA), effective at the beginning of the year.
In a separate move, CTNA said Thomas J. Reese, executive vice president, will retire effective April 1.
A CTNA spokeswoman said the company wouldn´t elaborate on the reasons for the name change, but said more details will be revealed once a new corporate logo is developed.
While dropping the word "General" from the new company name, CTNA will continue to use General as a tire brand name.
Mr. Reese has spent 35 years in the industry, the last 10 in charge of Conti´s commercial tire unit.
During his leadership, the truck tire division gained in both earnings and market, chalking up eight consecutive years of record sales.
