CHARLOTTE, N.C.—Continental A.G. has changed the corporate name of its North American subsidiary—Continental General Tire Inc.—to Continental Tire North America Inc. (CTNA), effective at the beginning of the year.
In a separate move, CTNA said Thomas J. Reese, executive vice president of Continental Tire, will retire effective April 1.
A CTNA spokeswoman said the company wouldn't elaborate on the reasons for the name change, but said more details will be revealed once a new corporate logo is developed.
While dropping the word "General" from the new company name, CTNA will continue to use General as a tire brand name.
Mr. Reese has spent 35 years in the industry, the last 10 in charge of Conti's commercial tire unit.
During his leadership, the truck tire division gained in both earnings and market, chalking up eight consecutive years of record sales.
