GAINESVILLE, Ga. (Nov. 28, 2000)—Continental General Tire Inc. has moved its distribution center for the U.S. Southeast to a larger, more modern facility in Gainesville to serve the company´s growing customer base throughout the region.
The 758,000-sq.-ft. facility, which went into service in July but which only recently was dedicated, replaces a smaller one the company operated in Duluth, Ga. The leased facility has a capacity for 1.2 million tires, and is staffed by 40 employees, making it Conti General´s largest distribution center in North America.
The facility, located on a 50-acre plot in a new industrial park, 64 shipping/receiving doors designed to provide faster turnaround, Conti General said. Gainesville is 40 miles northeast of Atlanta.
CGT is using a new internal network communication system at the warehouse, which allows faster interaction with the company´s host system, SAP.
The company operates six distribution centers in the U.S.
