LAS VEGAS (Nov. 27, 2000)—The BFGoodrich Tires unit of Michelin North America Inc. will offer its colorful Scorcher T/As in a "comet" version to consumers via the Internet in early 2001.
BFGoodrich plans to use the Internet to test-market the new comet-designed Scorcher T/As, then decide later if dealers will stock the tire in their stores, said Mathew Aaron, brand manager for BFGoodrich Tires.
The comet design Scorcher T/A features hundreds of multi-colored specks throughout the tread. Existing Scorcher T/As bear circumferential color stripes on the tread.
So far, Scorcher T/As are the only tires consumers can order online directly from Michelin. Online buyers will be able to choose the colors they want for comet versions, though BFGoodrich hasn´t determined the initial color offerings. Pricing for the new Scorcher T/As will be comparable to custom-designed Scorcher T/As currently offered online—about $50 to $80 higher than Scorcher T/As stocked at dealerships.
The Greenville, S.C.-based tire maker displayed the Scorcher T/A comet concept tires at the International Tire Expo/Specialty Equipment Market Association show in Las Vegas. In early 2001, BFGoodrich plans to market the Scorcher T/A, the g-Force T/A drag radial and the g-Force T/A KD to sport compact car enthusiasts, Mr. Aaron said.
BFGoodrich also added three Z-speed-rated sizes—225/40ZR18, 225/35ZR19 and 235/35ZR19—to its existing nine-size lineup of H- and V-rated Scorcher T/A tires.
