Homann Tire Inc. has opened two distribution centers in Texas, increasing the San Antonio-based firm's total number to four as it continues to change its focus from retail to wholesale.

On Nov. 16, the company opened another 18,000-sq.-ft. warehouse in Houston. "The distribution centers have been good to us and that's the direction of our business," said Rick Hutcherson, director of marketing.
Homann Tire has about 500 retail customers so far and more dealers are interested in signing up, he said. The wholesale operation distributes Michelin, Uniroyal, BFGoodrich and Cavalier tires and offers same-day delivery to dealers.
The 24-year-old dealership entered the wholesale business about three years ago. Its other distribution centers are in San Antonio and Killeen, Texas. Homann also has two retail locations in San Antonio and another in Pleasanton, Texas.
Though he would not divulge any details, Mr. Hutcherson said Homann Tire's expansion plans are "pretty serious."
