AKRON (Oct. 24, 2000)—Goodyear said it has acquired a 20-percent stake in Phase IV Engineering Inc., a Boulder, Colo.-based firm, with which it has been working to develop tire pressure monitoring technology.
Phase IV, specializing in the development of radio telemetry systems, has been working eight years with Goodyear on a system to monitor and report tire air pressure and temperature.
Goodyear recently unveiled a similar system, developed in cooperation with Phase IV, for the giant tires used in mining and other off-highway applications. That system is the only one commercially available to that segment of the tire market, Goodyear said.
The Akron-based tire maker said in September that it had reached a technology agreement with Cycloid Systems of Cranberry, Pa., which also develops systems for monitoring and maintaining air pressure.
