FULLERTON, Calif. (Oct. 12, 2000)—Yokohama Tire Corp. said it has begun incorporating run-flat technology into its flagship ultra-high-performance AVS Sport tire.
Initially, the run-flat version of Yokohama´s AVS Sport will be available in two sizes—P245/45R17 and P275/40R18—targeted specifically at Chevrolet Corvettes.
Intended for use on high-end sports cars and sedans, it is Y-rated for speeds up to 186 mph. In addition to the two run-flat models, Yokohama said it also has added two new sizes to its conventional AVS Sport line-up—205/50R17 and 295/30R18.
Constructed with reinforced sidewalls to prevent it from completely collapsing in the event of air loss, the AVS Sport is designed to travel up to 50 miles at 55 mph with no internal pressure.
Fullerton-based Yokohama Tire, the U.S.-based subsidiary of Japan´s second largest tire maker, introduced its run-flat, the A008P, seven years ago during the Specialty Equipment Market Association show in Las Vegas.
