WASHINGTON (Sept. 15, 2000)—Ford Motor Co. is investigating possible problems with Continental Contritrac AS MXS radials, size P245/75R16, because of four reports of tread separations from Saudi Arabia, a Ford spokesman said.
Ford is studying two of the tires that were original equipment on a Lincoln Navigator in Saudi Arabia.
The original USA Today story on the investigation "may have left a wrong impression about the safety of tires that Continental provides for the Lincoln Navigator," according to a prepared statement by Continental General Tire Inc.
Conti said it has no reports of rollovers or other serious accidents from this OE fitment, despite supplying nearly 700,000 tires for Navigators.
