BRUSSELS, Belgium (Aug. 15, 2000)—Bridgestone Corp.´s recall of about 6.5 million light truck tires due to safety concerns, includes "a relatively small number" of tires in Europe, Bridgestone/Firestone Europe said.
"The European recall involves around 10,000 OE and replacement tires, principally Wilderness AT tires for the Ford Explorer," a company spokesman said.
But Bridgestone/Firestone Europe still was working with Ford to establish exactly where and how many of the recalled tires were fitted in some countries including the United Kingdom, he said.
"Only a limited number of tires are in service in the European market with no known accidents having occurred as a result of the performance of these tires," according to a company statement.
Meanwhile, in Australia, Bridgestone officials said the company also will replace a small number of U.S.-made Wilderness AT tires that were fitted as original equipment and later also sold as replacements for Ford Explorers imported there before 1998.
