WASHINGTON—Shipments of passenger and light truck tires to the U.S. replacement market jumped in February, compared with the 1999 month, according to data from the Rubber Manufacturers Association.
Shipments of medium and heavy truck tires showed little change, advancing less than 1 percent.
Shipments of replacement passenger tires climbed 11.1 percent for the month, while light truck tire shipments leapt 12.3 percent.
The situation was nearly reversed in the Canadian aftermarket, where shipments of passenger tires by members of the Rubber Association of Canada slumped 0.7 percent, while shipments of truck and bus tires (including light truck) grew 4.4 percent.
In the U.S,. shipments of original equipment tires to vehicle manufacturers rose across the board in February, with heavy truck tire shipments surging 53.1 percent. Shipments of OE passenger and LT tires rose 4.7 and 3.7 percent, respectively.
