Honors Bridgestone/Firestone Inc. honored Ziegler Tire & Oil Co., Canton, Ohio, as part of the tire maker's celebration of the Firestone brand's centennial. The tire maker recognized Ziegler for more than 80 years of service as a Firestone dealership.
In 1919, Harold and Oliver Ziegler formed a dealer agreement with Harvey S. Firestone to sell his company's tires. There are currently five Ziegler family members involved in the operations of the dealership's 18 stores in Ohio and Michigan.
Team Tires Plus Ltd. has opened two locations in Wichita, Kan.
On April 30, the dealership opened a 9,000-sq.-ft. facility on the west side of the city that has nine bays and 12 employees. Another Tires Plus location on Wichita's east side opened June 10, giving Tires Plus 141 locations in nine states.
The Burnsville, Minn.-based company also announced plans to sell its four Tires Plus locations in Oklahoma City to Hibdon Tire Centers. Hibdon is owned by Morgan Tire & Auto Inc. of Clearwater, Fla.
In a prepared statement, Tires Plus Head Coach/CEO Tom Gegax said the company will concentrate its efforts on adding eight outlets in Denver, the first of which will open later this year as well as recently entered markets—Milwaukee, Kansas City, Mo., and Omaha, Neb.
Shadden Tire Co. in Crossville, Tenn., opened its second store on May 22 in what was a former Brad Ragan location, said Wayne Shadden, co-owner of the dealership with his brother Tom.
The 7,000-sq.-ft. facility has six bays and will have about 10 employees, Mr. Shadden said. Shadden Tire is a Goodyear G-110 independent dealership, which expects to have sales of more than $3 million this year.
The new outlet is on the north side of the city near Interstate 40 about 100 miles east of Nashville, Tenn.
Founded in 1953, Shadden Tire is expanding due to the rapid growth of Crossville, which has nearly doubled in population in the last 10 years, Mr. Shadden said.
Griffin Brothers Tire Sales Inc. opened its fifth store on May 30 in Concord, N.C. This is the second new location opened by the Charlotte, N.C.-based dealership this year.
Concord, about 20 miles northeast of Charlotte, is the site of the Lowe's Motor Speedway, which hosts three NASCAR events each year.
The newest store has 10 bays, including two for express oil changes. The facility offers tire service and automotive repair, including alignment and brake work.
Griffin Brothers is an associate dealership for Michelin and also carries Uniroyal, Delta and Continental tires. The company has two stores in Charlotte and stores in Cornelius and Mooresville, both in North Carolina.
Heafner/Itco Tires and Products, a subsidiary of Heafner Tire Group Inc., entertained 300 dealers and 50 distribution center managers in March during a four-day meeting in Cancun, Mexico, as a part of the company's Team 2000 incentive promotion program.
The guests were treated to entertainment and prizes, including a Volkswagen Beetle, an all-terrain vehicle and a seven-day cruise on Carnival Lines with $1,000 cash.
