NASHVILLE, Tenn. (May 11, 2000)—Siegfried Gebel, who originally published his book, "An international view on tyre retreading," two years ago in German, was in Nashville for The World ITRA Expo to promote the upcoming launch of the English-language version of his work.
The 250-page reference book, which took him five years to write and research, draws on Mr. Gebel´s 50 years of experience in the retreading business.
Mr. Gebel began his career at age 14 working in his uncle´s retread shop in Dresden, Germany, where he learned to retread tires by hand.
He spent two decades managing retread plants as far apart as Germany and South Africa.
For the past 22 years, before retiring in 1998, Mr. Gebel worked as a technical expert for German tread rubber maker Gummiwerke Kraiburg, servicing customers worldwide.
Recognized as a leading technical expert on the retreading process, Mr. Gebel has written what promotion for the book calls a "complete technical reference work for the retreader."
The book includes: a history of retreading and retreading technology; technical explanations of mold cure and precure retreading processes for all tire types; production control techniques; workshop layouts; machinery; tire wear and maintenance problems; trouble shooting techniques.
Mr. Gebel published the German edition himself and has sold 300 copies.
Valebridge Publications Ltd. of England is publishing the English version for $80 plus postage and handling charges of $5.60 per book in Europe and $12 for all other countries. The book should be available by mid June, Mr. Gebel said.
