CLERMONT-FERRAND, France (May 5, 2000)—Group Michelin will restructure and consolidate tire manufacturing and support activities at four sites in France this year, resulting in 1,880 job cuts.
The restructuring is part of a three-year, 20-percent productivity improvement program announced last September that included plans to trim its European work force by 10 percent.
Among the changes, Michelin will dedicate its Joue-les-Tours passenger, truck and OTR tire plant to truck tires for export;
Michelin said it hopes to cover most of the job cuts through early retirement or reassignment within the company.
