WASHINGTON (April 20, 2000) — Waste and recycling companies will soon have more time to self-report violations to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
The EPA will give companies 21 days to report violations under final revisions of the agency´s self-audit policy.
Current policy allows companies that report their own violations within 10 days and then quickly amend them to face reduced penalties or forgiveness.
The companies still must meet specific criteria under the revisions, expected to be completed this week by Steven Herman, assistant administrator for enforcement and compliance assurance. ©
