GENEVA—Goodyear claims to have signed a contract with a German car maker for fitment of its EMT run-flat tire on a five-passenger, small mid-size sedan scheduled for sale in North America. The contract calls for EMT to be offered as an option in 2001, but that by 2004 the car will be fitted 100 percent with the run-flat.
The car would be made by "a German manufacturer who is big in the U.S.A," according to Guy Kind, manager of automotive engineering for consumer tires. Neither Volkswagen A.G., DaimlerChrysler A.G. nor BMW A.G. immediately responded to questions.
