RMA elects new board members LITCHFIELD PARK, Ariz.—The Rubber Manufacturers Association approved the membership application of Falken Tire Corp. and elected several new board members at its annual meeting Feb. 27 in Litchfield Park.
Elected to three-year terms (expiring in 2003) were:
Bernd Frangenberg, president and CEO of Continental General Tire Inc.;
Daniel Ogden, president/ COO of Yokohama Tire Corp.
Joe Zekoski, director of tire technology for Goodyear North American Tire;
Jefferson Keener Jr., president and CEO of Chardon Rubber Co.; and
A.L. Stecklein, president of the Americas of Gates, Gates Rubber Co.
Fla. convention seminars-only
BOCA RATON, Fla.—The Florida Independent Tire Dealers and Retreaders Association announced that its annual convention, April 29-30 at the Hilton in Cocoa Beach, Fla., will be a seminar-only event.
Seminars will include a panel on "Industry Consolidation: Its Impact on the Independent Tire Dealer," featuring Bill Baker of Carroll Tire Co., Larry Morgan of Morgan Tire & Auto Inc. and Brandon Stotsenburg of Goodyear's Kelly Brands unit.
Greg Ring of Cooper Tire & Rubber Co. will discuss "Eight Essentials for Retail Success." Smithers Scientific Services will focus on "Finding and Retaining Quality Personnel."
Also scheduled are a golf tournament, deep-sea fishing, a beach party and a keynote speech by former astronaut Story Musgrave.

Renfro retires from Ill. group
GLEN ELLYN, Ill.—Lloyd Renfro, the executive director of the Illinois State Tire Dealers & Retreaders Association for the past 13 years, retired March 18.
Terri Cole of Highland, Mo., is now the new Illinois association's paid administrator.
Mr. Renfro, 68, said he plans to contribute to the ISTDRA's monthly newsletter and assist as needed in regard to scrap tire and other environmental issues.
He and his wife have purchased property in Hot Springs Village, Ark., where they plan to live during colder months.
La. dealers hold convention
BILOXI, Miss.—The Louisiana Independent Tire Dealers Association held its annual convention Feb. 25-26 at the Grand Casino and Bayview Resort in Biloxi.
The group held a golf tournament and elected new officers. More than 250 attended the event, which included guest speaker Archie Manning, former quarterback for the New Orleans Saints.
The new officers include: Dennis Richard of Twin Tire & Auto Care Inc. in Harvey, president; Charley Gowland of Chabill's Tire Service in Morgan City, first vice president; Ray Patron of Moore & Patron Inc. in Monroe, treasurer; and Neal Fontenot of Larry's Tire in Eunice, secretary.
