GREENVILLE, S.C. (March 23, 2000)—Michelin North America Inc. has named Michael I. Fanning vice president of public relations and government affairs, effective May 1.
Mr. Fanning, currently director of public relations for the Greenville-based tire maker, will replace James C. Morton Jr., a 24-year Michelin veteran, who will join Nissan North America Inc. as senior vice president, administration and finance April 1.
Mr. Morton will oversee all finance, human resources, business strategy, corporate communications, information systems and audit functions for Nissan´s North America operations. He and his family will move from Greenville to Torrrance, Calif., where Nissan´s North American headquarters is located.
As a senior vice president, he also will be a member of the North America Management Committee—the key decision-making body for Nissan on this continent—as well as the auto company´s U.S. Management Committee.
Mr. Morton will report directly Norio Matsumura, head of the company´s North American Management Committee and executive vice president of overseas operations for Nissan Motor Co. Ltd. As part of Nissan´s global organization, he also will have functional reporting responsibilities to Nissan´s world headquarters in Tokyo.
Michelin North America Chairman and President James Micali said Mr. Morton, in his role as the company´s top public relations spokesman, has been an effective leader within Michelin, the tire industry, the state of South Carolina and the Greenville community. "We wish him all the best in his new job," Mr. Micali said.
Before joining Michelin last April, Mr. Fanning was vice president of corporate communications at Liberty Corp., an insurance and broadcasting firm in Greenville. Prior to that, he was public relations director for The Reader´s Digest Association Inc. in New York. ©
