GATINEAU, Quebec (Mar. 10, 2000)—Add tire-search.com to the growing list of tire industry Web sites trying to capitalize on e-commerce.
Launched and developed by InfoExpert Crepeau Inc. of Gatineau, tiresearch.com aims to be a substantial listing of different tires in various sizes—particularly for specialty, antique and hard-to-find tires.
"Large specialty inventories can be a significant burden for a company, and searches for the right tire can be quite time-consuming," Ghislain Crepeau, InfoExpert´s owner, said in statement. "With tiresearch.com, dealers can quickly locate and order any tire a customer might request, whether automotive, truck, airplane, industrial, off-road or any other kind."
The site involves clicking on hyperlinks to either search for tires or list inventories. The search page asks for tire size, brand and region of the U.S. and Canada.
Vendors—such as distributors, dealers or manufacturers—that list tire inventory on the site enter an ID and authorization number, and can then check for purchasing requests or update their listed items.
InfoExpert also has built into tiresearch.com a feature that lets a user who can´t find a specific tire on the site´s database to leave a request for that tire active on the Web site for all vendors to see, according to Bob Peeling, InfoExpert´s marketing manager.
The site was introduced during the recent Tire Dealers Association of Canada convention in Toronto and is still in its infancy, Mr. Peeling said.
The firm expects to sign on 20 vendors from Canada in the coming weeks as a result of the TDAC trade show, he said. Registration also is open to U.S. companies.
Vendors who choose to list their inventories on the site pay a penny per item per day, or a minimum of $6 to list 20 items per month, while buyers can search for free, Mr. Peeling said. An "item" may constitute an inventory of tires with the same manufacturing code.
InfoExpert—a tire management software maker for the past 20 years—decided to create tiresearch.com as an additional service to dealers and distributors, Mr. Peeling said.
The firm already had manufactured a software product for dealers called INFOEX.
