WASHINGTON—Prices of radial passenger tires at wholesale fell 2.5 percent from September to October 1999, according to the most recent edition of the U.S. Labor Department's Producer Price Index. Compared with the year-earlier month, prices of passenger radials dropped 3.1 percent.
Otherwise, there was very little change in the one-month comparisons, except for a modest 0.1-percent increase in the price of radial truck/bus tires.
For the 12 months, the average price of non-radial medium and heavy truck/bus tires skidded 3.1 percent, while the category that includes industrial, utility, specialty and all solid tires fell 3.4 percent. The only increase was in tire repairs and sundries, up 1.6 percent.
