TORONTO (Feb. 11, 2000) — Officials are calling the Tire Dealers Association of Canada´s convention and trade show, held Jan. 26-29 in Toronto, an unqualified success.
TDAC Executive Vice President John Goodwin said the turnout of approximately 1,550 dealers and suppliers virtually tripled that of the association´s last quadrennial gathering in Vancouver, British Columbia, in 1996.
This year´s convention and trade show, which comprised 264 booths run by about 90 exhibitors, took up more than 70,000 square feet of the Metro Toronto Convention Center. It, too, was far larger than the ´96 Vancouver show, which occupied about 30,000 square feet, he said.
Mr. Goodwin also is the executive director of the Ontario Tire Dealers Association, which hosted the Toronto event.
He said no location has been selected as yet for the TDAC´s next national gathering in 2004. However, that event definitely will be held in the western part of the country and will be hosted by the Western Canada Tire Dealers association. Sites under consideration include Vancouver as well as Edmonton and Calgary, Alberta.
Dan Harper of Harper´s Tire Ltd. in Calgary and president of the Western Canada group, was installed at the Toronto meeting as the TDAC´s new president. He replaced Les Beatty of Cramer Tire Service in Burlington, Ontario, who had served in that post for the past four years.
